When I walked into the Fred Astaire Studio in Menomonee Falls I knew that this wasn’t just a dance studio. Immediately I was welcomed with open arms, smiling faces, and encouraging words. I decided to be brave and made an appointment for my very first dance lesson with Mr. Danconia. Well, that day eventually rolled around and I was a nervous wreck. I clearly remember walking up the stairs just shaking and thinking I can’t do this. I am going to fall flat on my face. So I decided to take a deep breath, walked through the door and from that moment on my life has changed forever.
I instantly fell in love with dancing and the special language it has without speaking any words. After my first few lessons I was hooked. Not only because of the fact that I was learning something new, but also the memories I was building and the family that I was entering into. My life was pretty mundane and I went through a lot of hurt and pain so I was pretty skeptical that dancing would boost me up and make me feel good. Well, I proved myself wrong because I am still dancing 4 months later, have moved up to social foundation and even took part in team match.
I feel so confident and alive and it is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I am eternally grateful to all of the staff at Fred Astaire Menomonee Falls. They have a way of making a bad day just completely disappear the moment you set foot on the dance floor. From their constant smiles, hugs, and encouraging words I have never met so many inspirational positive people. Whenever I have a bad day, all I do is think of Ms. Heidi’s smile, a hug from Mr. Danconia along with his exuberant personality, a high five from Ms. Connelly and Mr. Franco, and that puts things in perspective. It helps me to realize how blessed I am to have had them all come into my life. I want to thank all of them especially Angie and Larson for taking a chance with me and watching me grow into a graceful beautiful dancer before their eyes.
